Overview

The word Malabar corresponds to the vernacular “Malayalam”. Keram in vernacular means coconut tree. Calicut was previously the most important region of the Malabar Coast, where Arab, Chinese and East African traders once converged, Beypore, was one of the prominent ports and maritime trading centre of Kerala. The boat building yard here, famous for the construction of the Uru (Arabian trading vessel), also can see green paradise is nestled among the mountains of the Western Ghats, forming the border world of the greener part of Kerala. Clean and pristine, enchanting and hypnotizing, this land is filled with history and culture.

Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival Calicut

Also called Kozhikode International Airport, meet and greet by a GT Tourism representative and assisted transfer to resort / hotel.

Calicut (Kozhikode) was previously the most important region of the Malabar Coast, where Arab, Chinese and East African traders once converged. Vasco da Gama, the great voyager landed on its shores in 1498, catapulting the region to global fame. The whiff of history continues to permeate the lanes, bazaars and business hubs of this great port of yesteryears. Evening free for visit S M Street or Mithai Theruvu is the busiest street in Calicut and derives its name from the times when the street was lined with sweet and meat stalls. Today the street bustles with shops that sell anything and everything including the famed sweets and banana chips.

Day 2

Calicut – Wayanad (80 km / 2.5 hr)

Drive to Wayanad, enroute visit Beypore, was one of the prominent ports and maritime trading centre of Kerala. The boat building yard here, famous for the construction of the Uru (Arabian trading vessel), boasts a tradition of almost 1500 years. Later proceed to Wayand – a bio – diverse region spread across 2,132 square kilometers on the lofty Western Ghats; Wayanad is one of the few districts in Kerala that has been able to retain its pristine nature.

Arrive and check into your resort. Afternoon you can opt for visit Edakkal Caves- accessible only by a kilometers’ trek from Edakkal, the wall art found in these caves that have been inhabited at various stage in history has caught the attention of archaeologist’s worldwide.

Day 3

Wayanad

Early morning Wake up to the chirping of the birds in the forest and the sound of streams meandering and gushing around your cottage. After breakfast could go boating on the Pookot lake.This natural lake is surrounded by lush evergreen forests.

Day 4

Wayanad – Kannur

Today drive to Kannur via Tell cherry-a remarkable town by the sea, which is famous for three C’s – Cricket, Cakes and Circus. It is also rich in culture and traditions of the North of Kerala. Check into the majestic Ayesha Manzil. Built in 1862 by an English gentleman called Murdoch Brown, this mansion by the sea still retains its colonial charm.

Kerala’s only drive in beach where you can drive down the entire length of 4km. In the evening take part in a cookery demonstration by Faiza your hostess, who is renowned for her ' Mopilla ' cuisine Overnight at Ayesha Manzil?

Kannur- is said to be the ancient port of Naura, from whose shores King Solomon’s ships collected timber to build the great temple of Jerusalem .This nature rich land has been a key contributor to the cultural, religious, political and industrial heritage of the State. In addition, Kannur enjoys the credit of having been the cradle of many a colourful folk art and folk music of Kerala. Enjoy a They yam dance demonstration in a temple near your resort.

Day 5

Kannur – Bekal (80 km/ 2hrs)

Today check out from your hotel /resort and drive to Bekal. Kasaragod boasts of the largest and best preserved Fort in the whole of Kerala, bordered by a magnificent beach. Shaped like a giant keyhole, the historic Bekal Fort was built in the 17th century. This historic monument offers a superb view of the Arabian Sea from its tall observation towers, which were occupied by gigantic cannons till afew centuries ago.

Near the Fort is an old Mosque that is said to have been built by Tipu Sultan of Mysore. Originally constructed by the rulers of the ancient Kadampa Dynasty, the Fort changed hands over the years to the Kolathiri Rajas, the Vijayanagara Empire, Tipu Sultan and finally, the British East India Company.

Today, the Bekal Fort and its scenic surroundings are fast becoming an international tourist destination and a favourite shooting locale for film makers.
